Bonding with My 5-Year Old Through Baking

Today, I’m very excited to show you this sugar cookie recipe that I worked on with my 5-year old daughter, Emma. These sugar cookies are delicious, sweet, and crunchy. Plus, making them (and eating them, of course) was such a wonderful bonding experience for us!

I highly recommend including your kids in baking and cooking activities. Especially now, during the pandemic, engaging indoor activities are important for keeping the kids both entertained and educated. Making these sugar cookies with your children is fun, educational, and a productive way to spend time together. It’s also a great way to instill a love of food and cooking in them early on.

How To Make Sugar Cookies From Scratch?

These sugar cookies are as yummy as they are simple to make. All you need to do is combine your ingredients in a mixer, arrange the dough on a baking sheet, and bake. The baking time is just 8-10 minutes so you can have them ready in practically no time!

Besides being a great activity to do with children, these quick and easy cookies are also an excellent choice for beginners in baking. It’s a classic, fail-proof recipe that’s sure to satisfy every time.

Organic Sugar Cookies

Though sugary cookies aren’t the healthiest treat, homemade ones are definitely healthier than store-bought thanks to the lack of unnecessary food coloring, artificial flavor enhancers, and preservatives.

This recipe uses easy to find ingredients, many of which might already be in your pantry. I personally like to go the extra mile by selecting high-quality ingredients for my sugar cookies such as pure vanilla extract, organic cane sugar, unbleached organic flour, and organic eggs.

If this is something you’d like to try, I highly recommend it! Being able to control the quality of the ingredients in you and your family’s food is a very empowering feeling. And if you’ve been following my blog for a while now, you know I apply the same principle in cooking through my beloved vegetable garden!

Why Are My Sugar Cookies Soft?

Even though you probably want to dig into the cookies as soon as they’re fresh from the oven, they’ll be quite soft so I recommend giving them some time to set. Wait 2 minutes then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.

You can catch the video of Emma making the sugar cookies over on my Youtube channel. As you can see from the pictures, their shape turned out pretty wonky LOL. But of course, they were all very delicious and Emma was very proud of them.

I hope you enjoy this quick and easy sugar cookie recipe as much as I enjoyed filming my daughter making it!
